Statues filling weekend

January 24 to January 25

This weekend statue fillers from all over the would will meet to organize the filling of our big EC statues. This means a lot of work, as there are five big and many small ones to fill.

We will coordinate the rolling of the Mantras. The idea is that everybody all over the world has the possibility to roll some Mantras for the statues. For that, there will be a contact person (a statue filler) from every country (if possible) who gets a special amount of Mantras, e.g. Mahakala or green Tara Mantra they should roll. This person looks for helpers in his country, can do some rolling events and has the Mantras hopefully finished until April. So everybody can get the possibility to help rolling the Mantras for our statues. We will also collect all kind of ornaments, gold, silver, herbs or relicts from everywhere. This you can give to the contact person of your country as well.

After this weekend all centers will be informed soon how to became a part of this exciting process of filling statues for Europe center.

Europe Center statue filling weeks

May 11 to May 24

It was an exciting first year for the Europe Center, and already there are lots of new plans for this year. Friends from many different countries are coming together to continue meeting and working on various projects including restoration, planning, construction, and vision development.

One of the biggest projects was assigned to us by H.H. the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa himself, during his visit to the EC last summer. Seeing the many beautiful, small and large Buddha statues at the EC, he expressed the wish that all of them be filled before the 2009 International Summer Course. He told us: “Filling these precious statues will be like filling a stupa.”

In order for the statues to unfold their full blessing power, it is important that they be filled using the correct traditional methods, before being blessed by our Lamas. This of course means lots of work – and it is a great project for all of us to share. With the Europe Center being the heart of all Diamond Way Centers around the globe, it will be very meaningful for all centers to actively help filling them, and take part in this event. The idea is, that the filling of the statues will be accomplished by involving and drawing on the power and activity of every country.

The various preparations, including cleaning the statues, will take place from May 8 – 15, 2009 at the EC. The actual filling of the statues, which will be a shared effort, and happen under the guidance of our authorized statue fillers, will take place during the week of May 18 – 24. Everyone, regardless of prior experience, is warmly invited to come and help during these weeks, please register by emailing: join {at} europe-center(.)org

If you are not able to make the trip, your Sangha can also help support this project remotely: The filling of each statue requires many mantra rolls and gifts to the Buddhas. If your Sangha would like to help with the preparation of mantra rolls, please send an email to: ec-statues {at} europe-center(.)org.

For the gifts to the Buddhas everyone can help by collecting jewelry, semi-precious stones, gold, and silver, and deliver them to the Europe center at the beginning of May, together with all your mantra rolls.

We look forward to sharing this big event with everyone!

"108 ways for effective center meetings" weekend workshop (update)

May 16 to May 17

[Update (Mar 03, 2009) - Due to various reasons we have had to postpone this weekend workshop to 16-17.5.2009. Please register here. The original post follows.]

Bored by endless meetings and discussions? No free time to meditate, see friends, write or even read the minutes of the last meeting, before the next one?

As we grow, as an organization, there is more and more to discuss, plan and decide. Meetings seem to take up more time in our lives than anything else. Surely there is more to life than this? Wouldn’t it be nice to actually look forward to meetings?

We think so! We would therefore like to invite you to a weekend of insights and easy methods on how to make your center & team meetings more effective.

Topics: meeting basics, planning, tips for starting and finishing, how to make meetings fun, the art of clarifying questions & listening, buy-in for meetings.

The program will be led by our friends who have many years of professional experience consulting on these topics.

Registration form and detailed program.

2nd International Summer Course

August 4 to August 16

We are happy to announce the 2nd International Summer Course at the EC, which will take place from 4-16 August, 2009.

The program will be as follows:

H.H. the 17th Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje will open the EC summer course by giving an initiation into the Buddha of Limitless Light (Tib. Opagme, Skt. Amitabha), a very important step before one takes part in the practice of Conscious Dying (Tib. Phowa). After the blessing, travelling teachers will lead a meditation on the Buddha of Limitless Light.

The practice of Conscious Dying prepares us for the dying process for both ourselves and others, leading all to a state of great bliss. In the process of dying, this meditation will help us to enter the pure land of the Buddha of Limitless Light.
During the five days of meditation, Lama Ole Nydahl will give teachings on death, the intermediate state (bardo), and rebirth. At the same time one becomes capable of actively helping others while they are passing away.

If you are coming to the Conscious Dying course for the first time, you need to prepare by meditating on the Buddha of Limitless Light while repeating the mantra OM AMI DEWA HRI. Please learn the meditation in your nearest Diamond Way Buddhist Centre and complete 100,000 mantras before the course. You are also required to remain for the entire Conscious Dying course (until Sunday evening). To do the Conscious Dying meditation, Buddhist refuge is necessary. Lama Ole Nydahl will give refuge at the beginning of the course.

For seventy-two hours we will meditate on Loving Eyes, the Buddha of Compassion (Tib. Chenrezig, Skt. Avalokitesvara), for the benefit of all beings. In this way our main motivation as Diamond Way practitioners – to be able to help all sentient beings – is strengthened. Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche will be present for most of the meditation. He is a master of this practice and has guided retreats on Loving Eyes in Kathmandu for over 25 years. The accumulation of mantras during the meditation will be supported by friends worldwide via streaming. To be able to meditate with the teachers of one’s lineage gives the possibility for deep exchange. It is a rare opportunity and is very helpful for one’s development. The meditation will start with an introduction from Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche from 20:00 – 21:00. Rinpoche will also be giving short teachings each evening during the seventy-two hour meditation, from 20:00 – 21:00.

After three days of intensive meditation, Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche will seal the program by giving the initiation into Loving Eyes (Tib. Chenrezig, Skt Avaloketisvara), in the morning. In the afternoon, travelling teachers will give explanations on the Foundational Practices (Tib. Ngondro). Lama Ole Nydahl will also give a public lecture in German starting at 20:00.

This year Shamar Rinpoche will round off the international event by giving a three-day Mahamudra (Great Seal) course, commenting on the Great Seal text composed by the 3rd Karmapa. Shamar Rinpoche will give a Guru Yoga initiation at the end of the course.
